Joana Pontes
BIO
Joana Pontes graduated in Psychology from the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences at the University of Lisbon, she studied film at the Lisbon School of Drama and Cinema and television at RTP and the BBC. In 2003, he completed the Advanced Programme in Political Journalism at the Institute of Political Studies at the Catholic University of Lisbon. In 2018, she received her PhD in History in the specialty of Empires, Colonialism and Post-Colonialism, from ISCTE IUL. From 2004 to 2008, she was an advisor to the RTP Programme Direction for the documentary area. She dedicates herself to writing and directing documentaries, teaching in this area at the Escola Superior de Comunicação Social. In 2007, she was awarded the Grande Prémio da Lusofonia (Lusophone Grand Prize) for the documentary O Escritor Prodigioso, a film on the life of Jorge de Sena. In 2011, with the feature documentary As Horas do Douro, co-written with António Barreto, she received the SPA award. In 2018 she was awarded the Fernando de Sousa prize for directing and co-writing the series Europa 30. She was a board member of the League of Friends of the Military Historical Archive. Between 2013 and 2015, she was a member of the jury of the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual.
